Park renamed to honor sunken freighter

Thirty-three lives were lost in the sinking of the SS Carl D. Bradley November 18, 1958.

This Sunday the public is invited as a Manistique park is renamed in its honor.

Over 50 years ago the freighter encountered a storm with 65 mile per hour winds and 20 foot waves. She sunk 23 miles off the Manistique shore. Only two of the crew members survived, and the last living one is planning on attending the dedication.

The ceremony takes place at Lakeview Park across from the Big Boy at 3 p.m.
