      Pedestrian hit by alleged drunk driver, listed in critical condition

      A 61-year-old Skandia man is in the hospital after being hit by an SUV. The Marquette County Sheriff's Office says the vehicle/pedestrian crash happened around 5 p.m. Thursday.

      Officials say a 56-year-old Skandia man, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trail Blazer, was under the influence of alcohol.

      Authorities say the incident happened in the 100 block of Ingalls Road in Skandia. Daniel Delaski, 56, was backing out of his driveway when he hit 61-year-old Richard Gelsinger, who was walking near the driveway.

      Sheriff's deputies investigating the scene found that Delaski was drunk. He was arrested and charged with Operating While Impaired-Causing Serious Injury. He was lodged in the Marquette County Jail and arraigned on Friday morning.

      Gelsinger is hospitalized at Marquette General with internal injuries. He is currently listed in critical condition and being treated for internal injuries.

      Along with the Marquette County Sheriff's Department, assisting at the scene were the Skandia-West Branch First Responders and Marquette General EMS.
