      PetSmart partners with local shelter

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is taking advantage of an opportunity a new retailer in town has offered, and they're looking for volunteers to help.

With the opening of the new PetSmart store in Marquette Township, UPAWS has set up a new adoption location.

You can stop in and visit with the eight cats they have there during store hours. UPAWS is hoping the new location will be a more visible spot for those who are looking to adopt a pet.

"This is just another opportunity for us to get our pets out there in the public's eye to be adopted. It is a little bit more central to Marquette which makes it convenient for people to see the pets and visit with them and get an idea of what they're looking for in a companion," said UPAWS Director Lareina Van Strien.

UPAWS is looking for a volunteer to come to PetSmart around 8 a.m. every day to clean the area.

If you'd like more information on how you can volunteer at this new location, stop in to UPAWS located in Negaunee Township or you can check out the UPAWS website.
