Police show support for sexual assault victims

If you see a local law enforcement car, you'll notice they have a teal ribbon showing their support for Sexual Assault Awareness Month coming up in April.

The Women's Center and Harbor House in Marquette provides services to survivors of sexual assault and abuse. Advocates say they see 200 or more people who survive these crimes. They provide crisis counseling services to help get survivors coping with what happened.

"It helps them to take their power back to recoup what they lost throughout the trauma to try to regain what life was like prior to being traumatized," said Sexual Assault Awareness Advocate Kelly Laakso.

If you want to show support, there is a 'Walk a Mile in Her Shoes' event coming up on April 16 at Northern Michigan University.
