A standoff with police Monday afternoon in Escanaba ends peacefully. The Escanaba Public Safety Department reported a man was hold up in a house and told police he was going to shoot himself.
The call came into the Escanaba Public Safety office at 4:10 p.m. on the city's south side. The report, a male suspect, inside the home claiming to have several firearms. After repeated attempts to contact him, officers were finally successful in getting him on the phone.
He refused to leave the house or let officers in. After a period of time, police were able to convince the man to open the door and show himself. Authorities were then able to take the man into custody and secure the scene.
The suspect was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment.
There's no word on any charges at this time.
