Police to increase seat belt enforcement through Labor Day weekend

Police say that they see a lot of fatal car accidents over Labor Day weekend.

From now until September 1, local law enforcement will be out on the streets looking to stop motorists that are not wearing seat belts or that they suspect are impaired. Police say that even though Michigan seat belt compliance is at 93%, for every one percent increase they see ten lives saved and 100 injuries prevented.

They know people will be enjoying themselves over the weekend and implore those who are drinking to plan for it and get either a cab or a designated driver.
