Police track down new leads in armed bank robbery

Chocolay Township police are following a new lead in the armed bank robbery at the Northern Michigan Bank and Trust on Wednesday.

Authorities are looking for a vehicle and those inside.

The bank was robbed at gunpoint around 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday. After reviewing the bank and local business surveillance tapes, officials would like to speak with the driver of a gray or silver SUV type vehicle that was in the parking lot between 1:10 and 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

The driver of the pickup truck with a fifth wheel camper identified on Wednesday as a vehicle of interest has been questioned by police, and according to officials, has been cleared.

Police say they've followed up on at least a dozen tips, and the robbery is still under investigation.

"At this point, we know there's one individual involved, it's quite possible there could be the driver of a getaway car involved as well, at this point have not confirmed that," said Sgt. Scott Jennings of the Chocolay Township Police Department.

Authorities are asking for anyone with information to call 911 or their local police department.
