Police: Weather and visibility issues factors in three-vehicle crash

Two people were sent to the hospital following a three vehicle crash that happened on Thursday morning.

According to the Houghton County Sheriff's Department, the crash happened when a vehicle crossed the centerline on M-26 and collided with an oncoming vehicle shortly after 7:30 a.m. Police say that a 34-year-old Atlantic Mine man was unable to stop his vehicle for traffic that was lined up waiting for a logging truck to turn. His vehicle crossed the centerline, striking two vehicles, one of them head-on.

The Atlantic Mine man had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Portage Health. A 14-year-old passenger in one of the other vehicles was also taken to the hospital. The sheriff's department added that there were no injuries in the third vehicle involved in the crash.

Officials say poor visibility and weather conditions were factors in the crash.
