A 23-year-old Escanaba man, who pled guilty to two felonies from an assault last year, has been sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court.
Scott Allen Wahl is headed to the Michigan Department of Corrections for attempted larceny of a person. He was sentenced to serve from eighteen months to five years, with credit given for 105 days already served. Wahl was also sentenced for assault with a dangerous weapon. He will serve at least eighteen months, but no greater than four years, for that crime. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
He became emotional in court on Tuesday as he addressed his family, who was also there.
"I want you guys to know that I will come out to be a better person from this," said Wahl. "I'm going to take every class, whenever I can, to come out better from this."
Wahl testified in February that he and another Escanaba man assaulted a Bark River man. They thought he possessed illegal drugs. The victim testified that he was hit in the back of the head with an iced tea bottle during the assault.
