Program helping struggling children needs donations to stay afloat

Thanks to generous donations from the community, children at Teaching Family Homes in Harvey will be able to unwrap their own gifts this Christmas.

But with 364 other days during the year, the home and their Adopt-A-Child program are both in need of donations all year-round to stay afloat. The non-profit organization helps troubled children and families in the region. It houses about 100 children of all ages.

Items like bedding, towels, monetary donations and various event passes are needed to keep the homes running. Employees also hope to provide fitness equipment for the home.

"It's important for them to know that they're cared for not only by the Christmas gifts we give them but by the day-to-day items that they need throughout the year, and by having the community really say, 'We're here for you, we want to help you,'" said Marcie Miller, program support assistant.
