      Protective Services referral leads to meth arrests

      Ishpeming Police arrested 3 people on methamphetamine charges Wednesday.

      A Protective Services referral on a couple who had just moved to Ishpeming led to these arrests. Officials state that 46-year-old Robert Michael Kangas Jr., who was staying at 429 E. High Street, was taking care of his one-and-a-half-year-old child while under the influence of meth. Authorities also found meth making components, along with a used one pot generator.

      In addition to arresting Kangas, the child's 32-year-old mother Candice Ann Bonner and 18-year-old Taylor Marita Trezona were also arrested. All 3 suspects were lodged at Marquette County Jail where they await arraignment.

      After reviewing the case, the Marquette County Prosecutor's Office authorized the following charges for each person: operating/maintaining a laboratory in presence of a minor and operating/maintaining a laboratory involving methamphetamine. Each charge could be punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Bond was set at $100,000 cash on each count.

      The Ishpeming Police were assisted at the scene by the Negaunee Police, Child Protective Services, Ishpeming Fire Department, and members of the UPSET team.
