The recall efforts of three Ishpeming City Council members is intensifying this week. The Citizens for Bjorne Justice Committee will be holding a petition signing event this weekend.
The recall targets council members Claudia Demarest, Elaine Racine, and Michael Tall. Those members voted against the transfer of retirement benefits for former Chief of Police Jim Bjorne, who was fired last fall for insubordination.
The group's goal is to get 600 signatures, but 487 approved signatures are needed in order to hold a special recall election on May 5.
Spokesman for the group and Bjorne's brother-in-law, Bob Clark, says they have 75 percent of their goal met.
"We've been out, going door to door to get signatures, but invariably people are not home," said Clark. "People who we have not yet contacted and who still want to sign the recall petition can come to one location."
That location is at the former laundry mat next to Radio Shack in the Country Village.
