The renewaFuel plant in Sawyer could soon be back in operation. A Minnesota-based group called RNFL Acquisitions will receive a lease reassignment and six-month rent waiver from the Marquette County Board. The group will then take over the biofuel plant with plans to get it running again. The plant ceased operations in mid September after being unable to generate products at its designed capacity. Officials say steps are now being taken to correct that problem.
"They've brought in some engineers and scientists to take a walk through the plant to put together a new game plan as best they see it, based on what has been designed," said Marquette County Interim Administrator, Scott Erbisch. The company plans to hire between 25 to 30 workers. They say they could rehire some of the former plant workers if they're available. There's no word yet on when the plant will be reopened.
