Representative Scott Dianda was at the Calumet Post Office on Monday morning to talk with people filing their taxes.
Dianda says his goal was to talk with senior constituents about receiving heating credit from the state. The State of Michigan provides funding for eligible low-income households for heating costs. Eligibility is based on income, exemptions, and household heating costs.
Dianda says that the long winter has made it difficult for people to receive adequate funding for energy costs.
"A lot of the seniors in our area really noticed the fact that they lost their heating credit, and with the weather that we had last night, it's just another reminder of what is happening in Michigan, losing that heating credit for seniors who desperately need that extra money to heat their homes because our heating season has been a lot longer this year," said Dianda.
Dianda says he also hopes to talk with people about the pension tax and how it affects local small businesses.
