Residents spent their Saturday afternoon sweeping the streets of downtown Escanaba for a community-wide cleaning day. The cleanup effort aims to tidy up the streets of Escanaba for its 150th Birthday Celebration in July.
The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) who organized the cleaning says keeping the streets clean is a community's responsibility.
"We've been raking, cleaning up, trimming bushes," says Escanaba volunteer Charles Kang. "Just picking up yard debris or any kind of debris laying around on Main Street."
The cleaning will continue again on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The DDA adds it will most likely organize another community cleanup before Escanaba's 150th birthday in July.
