Some Copper Country residents learned some valuable skills in staying safe online in Michigan Tech's Breaking Digital Barriers special workshops at the Portage Lake District Library.
Residents learned the importance of using different passwords on different accounts as well as deleting emails asking for personal identification information.
The workshop instructors say if an email offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. They also say that even if your account information is breached, there are ways to fix the issue so it doesn't happen again.
â??It is for everybody. I work with computers every day. Most of us do now. If you work on a computer all day long, and sometimes you click on something you shouldn't have, and yes, it's a problem, but you can recover from it. It's not the end of the world,â?? said workshop instructor, John Velat.
The Breaking Digital Barriers programs will continue Saturday with a technology seminar designed specifically for women and a digital photography workshop next Friday.
