Rocks and minerals were up for grabs in Ishpeming Sunday afternoon. The Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club held their annual silent auction at the Cliffs Shaft Mine Museum. Rocks and minerals from around the country and even around the world were auctioned off. Proceeds from the auction go towards the club's community services.
"We do have an educational program. We have two individuals who act as our community education coordinators and they take programs on rocks and minerals into the local schools as part of the curriculum," said Charlie Richardson, President of the Ishpeming Rock and Mineral Club.
The club also gives awards every year to one student from Northern Michigan University and one student from Michigan Tech.
Anybody is welcome to attend the clubs meetings, so there is always an opportunity to learn more about the club.
