      ROTC cadets receive final salute

Saturday, Army and Air Force ROTC cadets received final salutes from their commanders at Michigan Tech University in Houghton.

The national anthem kicked off the ceremony for our official new men and women of the military.

Cadets were pinned by loved ones solidifying their commission to either the Army or Air Force as 2nd Lieutenants.

"The last couple of years have been a lot of training," says newly promoted cadet Jessica Tompkins. "It's been a very good ride."

"I think it brings out the fact that you really don't know what you could do until you're pushed to do it."

A silver dollar salute followed the pinning. The coin represents the symbolic receipt of respect for the newly-earned rank and position.
