      Rummage sales to benefit UPAWS

The Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter is holding a string of rummage sales this summer.

Local shelter supporters have donated new and gently used clothing, furniture, and other items to be sold as a fundraiser for UPAWS.

The first sale will be held this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

UPAWS employees say the best part is being in downtown Marquette this year.

The Masonic Building has temporarily donated space in the downstairs part of their building to be used for the sales.

"We're inside, we have tons of room, and we've already been collecting for a month, and we have tons of stuff. It's incredible! Maybe you can see behind me, there's just so much great stuff. People have been very generous," said Lareina Van Strien, Manager at UPAWS.

UPAWS will host two other rummage sales on June 28 and 29 and August 2-4.

If you would like to donate items, you can call the shelter at (906) 475-6661.
