This Memorial Day nearly 300 people are expected to â??run for those who stood for usâ??. The 7th annual â??Run for Joeâ?? is taking place this Monday in Rapid River.
Army Specialist Joseph Micks was killed in Iraq in 2006. This run helps raise money to maintain the Lest They Be Forgotten memorial built in his honor. It stands in the Masonville Township Memorial Park. This year the family is hoping to raise enough money to buy solar panels for lighting the memorial.
The family hopes with this run Joe is never forgotten.
â??This is our way every year on Memorial Day to keep his memory alive,â?? said Joeâ??s mother, Amy Micks. â??And, to thank him for our freedom, for everything that have that we hold precious.â??
Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Rapid River Lion's Club pavilion. The race begins at 9:00, sharp. It is $20 to participate, or $15 per person for families of three or more.
The Micks family is also continuing to raise money to bring Joeâ??s remains back home.
