Sawyer company selling off abandoned buildings

A major redevelopment company in Sawyer is planning to auction off abandoned buildings.

Telkite is putting four buildings, including a former post office and laundromat, up for sale.

Company representatives say new developments are necessary for Sawyer's economy, particularly given the still-felt absence of the KI Sawyer Air Force Base.

"We have over 1.5 million square feet of commercial property and much of it has been vacant since the base closed. We thought having an auction of some of the properties would be a great way to stimulate job activity and attract investment to the community." said Telkite executive director Vikki Kulju.

The auction will be held on June 24th at 6 p.m. at Sawyer's Silverwings Community Center.
