A school bus carrying the Munising girls basketball team was involved in an accident Thursday evening.

There were no serious injuries, but one girl did complain of neck pain. She was treated by paramedics on the scene.

The accident happened at 5:30 p.m. on US-2/41 near the NewPage paper mill in Escanaba. A truck had just left the paper mill and turned south on the highway.

The driver of the school bus said he was blinded by the setting sun and rear-ended the tractor trailer.

The bus driver was cited for failing to yield.

The school bus was heavily damaged. Their game against Carney-Nadeau was cancelled.
