Seat belt saves woman from serious injuries

A Gladstone woman continues to recover after falling asleep behind the wheel and crashing her car.

The Michigan State Police in Iron Mountain responded to the scene of the crash Monday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. The accident happened on M-69 near Kelly Road in Felch. Anita Stockham, 79, fell asleep behind the wheel. The car went off the road, hit an embankment, then crossed Kelly Road, hit a telephone pole and overturned.

Stockham was wearing a seat belt which prevented serious injuries. She did receive treatment at the scene for minor injuries. Alcohol is not a factor in the crash.
