The National Weather Service office in Negaunee Twp has issued a Coastal Flood Warning effective until midnight Thursday night for Baraga, Marquette, Alger & Luce Counties including beaches along Lake Superior, McCarty Cove, South Beach, Lakewood Bay, near Au Train Bay and along Pictured Rocks.

Strong storms have created strong north to northeast winds along Lake Superior. These winds have created rapid fluctuations in water levels on Lake Superior, called a seiche. Water levels will appear to recede and quickly advance with little to no warning. Rapid fluctuations are expected to continue, especially along narrow channels and harbors through this evening and even into early Friday before returning to normal.

Remember, a Coastal Flood Warning means flooding in occurring or imminent. Please use caution along the Lake Superior shoreline and be alert for rising water levels. Take appropriate action to protect life ad property. Move away from the shoreline.
