A Gwinn man has been arrested following an investigation into a fatal traffic accident in Gladstone on March 20. After a review of the case by the Delta County Prosecuting Attorney, 24-year-old Harley Durocher is being charged with six felonies.
Durocher was the driver of a tractor-trailer that struck a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Thomas Swift of Escanaba. Mr. Swift and his wife Barbara were killed in the crash. Investigators said Durocher failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of US 2 & 41 and South Hill Road in Gladstone.
He is charged with two counts of operating with a suspended license causing death, two counts of reckless driving causing death and two counts of operating with the presence of a controlled substance causing death. Durocher was working for LJ Roberto Logging of Gwinn. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday morning in Delta County District Court.
Another vehicle was also involved in the accident. The driver of that car, Joyce Scheriff from Gladstone, suffered injuries in the crash and was treated and released from St. Francis Hospital.
