Over 200 seniors from around the Copper Country are celebrating Assisted Living Week by participating in the Senior Heritage Day Carnival.
The event is put on by the Houghton County Commission on Aging. The carnival offered games like spin the wheel and ping pong toss which were sponsored by different providers in the community. Seniors also received prizes and enjoyed music.
Almost 14 percent of the population of Michigan is made up of people over the age of 65, which organizers say stresses the importance of senior care.
"I think it's important to remind the seniors that they're not forgotten," said Katie Kioski, activities director at The Bluffs. "We enjoy them and we're proud that they're still part of our community, so we want to just do something special for them and show them how much we really care."
This year the arena was decorated in red, white and blue in memory of September 11.
