A proposal by the YMCA in Iron Mountain to acquire the senior center located next door had seniors concerned. On Tuesday evening at the county board meeting, they voiced their opinions about the future of their building.
Some of the seniors said the services offered at the center are extremely valuable, especially social events such as dances. The YMCA wanted the center and its parking space to upgrade their facility.
But Tuesday night, the board voted to keep the senior center as it is. â??You maintain it wonderfully,â?? said commissioner, Joe Stevens. â??Itâ??s a beautiful building that you keep clean, and it's an asset to the community, so let's just keep it the way it is.â??
The board's motion also included further consideration of alternative parking options for the YMCA.
