      Serene location for honoring veterans

Looking for a serene spot to honor our veterans? Check out the Alger County Veteran's Memorial.

Nestled on the shores of Munising Bay, the park is lined with bricks honoring local veterans who have served our country, including 50 World War I veterans, 6 World War II veterans, 13 from Vietnam War and 7 from the Korean War.

Alger Chamber of Commerce Representative Tom Dolaskie comes from a long line of military vets. He says the memorial is fitting for a community filled with those who have served.

"For a tight-knit, small community, the number of veterans and the number of military servicemen that we're all attached to, it's pretty significant and it's definitely a one degree separation community to veterans," said Dolaskie. "We all know someone who has served or is serving."

Early on Friday, a flag was raised at the memorial in honor of Veterans Day.
