Long distance hikers now have shelter when traveling along the North Country National Scenic Trail in Chocolay Township.
The shelter is located on the Lakenenland Sculpture Park off of M-28. It is made out of logs from an old sauna, and it was built by junk artist Tom Lakenen.
"Like everything else Tom does, it's all for the good of everybody else, and we are very appreciative. Now hikers coming through on long distance can spend the night at Tom's shelter," said Lorana Jinkerson, North Country Trail president.
The North Country Trail Hikers Chapter is made up of 130 members. Around 20 build and maintain 120 miles of the North Country National Scenic Trail, and they're always looking for new members and volunteers.
