      Ski hill wins top honors

The City of Gladstone won the region seven Community Excellence Award at the Michigan Municipal Leagueâ??s 2014 Capital Conference. It was the Gladstone Ski Hillâ??s After School Program that earned them this award.

Three days a week about 70 kids from surrounding schools bussed to the hill for hours of fun. The hill provided a snack, helped with homework, equipment rental and lessons for $9. The kids had the opportunity to ski, snowboard or tube. The program was recognized for getting kids active, teaching them a new skill, and employing high school students.

â??Itâ??s an honor for us,â?? said Gladstone Parks and Recreation assistant director Jason Davis. â??Weâ??re a small hill up here. Most people donâ??t even know where weâ??re located or whatâ??s available up here. Just getting on the map for Gladstone is an achievement for us.â??

Gladstoneâ??s After School Program will compete for the statewide CEA title at the Leagueâ??s Annual Convention in October.
