While most people tend to focus on the deals in the big box stores, many smaller, local retailers had special prices on Black Friday to compete.
Employees at Getz's in Marquette said Black Friday is the biggest day of the year for sales. Getz's opened at 8 a.m., two hours earlier than normal, and people lined up around the block.
Employees said they try to stay competitive by reducing prices on many of their top name brands. They want to remind shoppers that while there may be more deals at the bigger stores, shopping local is important for their community.
"Small business is the lifeblood of America, and every small business employs a lot of people that, in turn, spend money locally, so the lifeblood says 'Hey, spend locally if you can,'" said Manager Dennis Mingay.
Getz's employees said after Black Friday, they'll prepare for orders on Cyber Monday. And remember, Saturday is 'Shop Small,' a day showcasing your locally-owned retailers.
