The below freezing temperatures gave a handful of people the chance to make snowshoes while keeping warm indoors. A snowshoe lacing workshop was held at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum Saturday.
Although many of the more modern snowshoes are made from plastic and other synthetic materials, participants spent their day learning about the traditional wooden snowshoes.
"We're lacing them up here. These people are helping us and showing us how to lace them. It's just the uniqueness of something I made myself," said Bob Vanbennekom, a workshop participant.
The Michigan Iron Industry Museum typically hosts a snowshoe lacing workshop on the first Saturday of December. The museum is also planning a snowshoe hike on their own trails in February.
