      Sock hop for a cure

The vest and nebulizer Grace uses daily

The 6th annual Sock Hop to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is taking place Friday night in the Escanaba High School common area. There will be dancing, raffles, concessions and a funny sock contest. It costs $2 per person or $5 for a family. The event is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. It is fun for the whole family.

People with Cystic Fibrosis, like 12-year-old Grace Charles, have difficulty breathing because of this life-threatening disease. It mainly affects the lungs and pancreas. Grace takes over 40 pills a day and wears a vest that shakes the mucus loose for an hour and a half. She also uses a feeding tube. Grace hopes, with the help of donations, a cure will be discovered.

â??It would really be nice if everybody could come to the sock hop because it would help raise money for a cure for kids like me so that they donâ??t have to suffer the rest of their lives,â?? said Grace. â??It would be really nice.â??

Grace is looking forward to event, and already has her socks picked out.
