Start the Cycle is a program created to get at-risk teens and kids interested in getting involved within their community through mountain biking.
These kids trained since March for the Ore to Shore.
The training really paid off when every single racer from their group crossed the finish line, including our friend Juliette, who's journey we've been following all summer.
"It felt so good! It was my first year doing the 10 mile and it just felt so good," said Juliette Kimmes, Start the Cycle participant.
It happened, finally.
The Start the Cycle kids completed the Ore to Shore this past Saturday!
Every single one of them crossed the finish line, smiling all the way.
"We had one flat, but he walked just at the end here and he had a good, positive attitude so you can't go wrong even with some equipment failures," said Erich Petushek, STC Mentor.
Juliette Kimmes, the 10 year old Marquette girl we've been following all summer long through Start the Cycle, finished with amazing stats.
She completed the 10-mile Shore Rock, and took first in her age group, 13th in female, and 53rd overall!
"It is such a great experience. It is very fun and I think Start the Cycle helped me train for it a lot," said Kimmes.
Out of the 23 racers participating in the Ore to Shore, about half completed the Shore Rock, with the other half completing the Soft Rock.
"Everybody did amazing, there were smiles on their faces, so it was great. It's awesome to see this program come to fruition," said Petushek.
"I think the best part about it is just going out, doing what I love, biking, and just going out there and having fun," said Kimmes.
Start the Cycle season three will begin orientation for next season in March 2015.
