The United Steelworkers will be holding their first annual Strike for Hunger this weekend at Elmerâ??s County Market. They will be collecting food and hygiene products for the local pantries.
Starting Friday, Jan. 17 at noon and ending Sunday, Jan. 19 at noon, the union will be striking for hunger for a full 48 hours.
All items collected the first 24 hours are being donated to Saint Vincent de Paul. Collections the second day will go to the Salvation Army of Escanaba.
â??To live as a community, we need to support each other," said Steven Benoit, Coordinator for the USW. "And that light will only shine through if we go out and provide and help others that are less beneficial than us.â??
Monetary donations are also accepted, and prefilled bags will be available for purchase inside Elmerâ??s.
