Strong winds hit central Upper Peninsula

The L'Anse area got hit by some strong winds Thursday evening.

Pictures submitted to Upper Michigan's Source show damage near East Fall Street in L'Anse and around Sacred Heart School. The National Weather Service says that they'll have a survey team in the area Friday to investigate the damage to determine if it was caused by straight-line winds or a weak tornado.

Marquette County seemed to escape major damage from Thursday night's storm.

Michigan State Police report, for the most part, roadways have been cleared. On Marquette County Road 550 near Harlow Lake, a big tree fell across parts of the roadway but was cleaned up earlier Friday morning.

There have been some scattered outages. There were reports that the storm damage was worse in Ontonagon County.

Officials warn people to watch out for other trees and branches down across the roadway, and if you see a power line down, keep your distance.
