A wildfire on S ugarloaf Mountain continued to burn Tuesday, growing in size to about three acres.
T he DNR, along with the Marquette Township Fire Department, responded to the call Monday night. F irefighters had to pull out because of the rugged terrain and the safety hazards it posed to the responders.
F irefighters from the DNR are back on the scene again Tuesday. T hey expect the fire to grow a bit larger but anticipate it being contained as early as Wednesday.
"F or today, our objective is to get some containment line on it," said Pete Glover of the Michigan DNR. "W e're going to be able to get some water on it, at least to portions of it; other portions are really rugged and steep, and it will be mostly handwork using hand tools and chainsaws and that type of thing."
T he DNR says the blaze was most likely caused by a campground fire this past weekend and worsened by drought-like conditions.
