Sunday will mark 52 years of Finland Calling on air in the U.P.
When Carl Pellonpaa started Finland Calling in 1962, John F. Kennedy was president and man had not yet walked on the moon.
Pellonpaa recalls, when he began as a weather man at TV6, he and another employee were of Finnish heritage.
His boss told him it was time for a Finnish show to air.
Carl laughs when he remembers the humble beginnings of Finland Calling.
"It was live. Our Finn was pretty bad. All we had were several records that played on a turn table in the control room while we sat in the studio. All we had were picture books" says Pellonpaa.
Carl credits God and loyal fans for the success of the show.
You can celebrate with Finland Calling at their dance at the Elks Lodge in Ishpeming this Sunday.
