An interim superintendent has been chosen for Gwinn Area Community Schools.
Dr. Stephen Piereson will start on July 1 of this year as the GACS interim superintendent. His term will be effective until June 30, 2014.
Board members said their decision was based on Piereson's numerous qualifications.
Currently, Piereson is retiring as the Ishpeming Schools' Superintendent. He has many years experience in education at various school districts.
"We're absolutely delighted. He has twenty plus years experience, just in that school alone. He has served as principal, teacher. And we're looking forward to July 1 when he can become part of our staff," said Gloria Bigelow, President of the GACS Board of Education.
Piereson has said he would only like to serve GACS as interim for the allotted year.
The board has elected to still use the Michigan Association of School Boards services to aid them in finding a permanent, full-time superintendent.
