      Suspect in custody in Ishpeming fatal beating

      The suspect in a homicide in Ishpeming remains in jail.

      The person, who's not being identified, is expected to be in Marquette County District Court, Monday. The 46-year-old suspect was not arraigned Saturday.

      Ishpeming Police say 51-year-old Wayne Perry of Ishpeming was found dead in his home at 320 West Johnson Street Tuesday night. An autopsy on the body later in the week, revealed Perry suffered head injuries. That's when the homicide charged was issued and the suspect arrested. ---------------------------UPDATED Friday January 8, 4:15 p.m.

      A suspect in the death of 51-year-old Wayne Perry is in custody.

      According to a press release from Ishpeming Police Friday afternoon, witness interviews turned up a suspect.

      The person is expected to be charged with open murder.

      Additional details were also provided.

      Apparently, police received a 911 call on Tuesday concerning an unresponsive male located at 320 West Johnson Street.

      The victim was later pronounced dead at Bell Hospital.

      Police originally thought the death appeared to be from an overdose.

      However, an autopsy at Marquette General later found hidden head injuries. The case was then treated as a homicide.

      Investigators identified the suspect, whom they now have in custody, after conducting witness interviews who were at the scene.

      The suspect's name has not been released.

      The investigation continues into this case.

      We just received permission from the Ishpeming City Police to release the name of the victim.

      Fifty-one-year-old Wayne Perry has been identified as the man who suffered the fatality.

      We just spoke with Ishpeming Police Chief Jim Bjorne and they aren't ready to release the name of the victim until they're sure the family has been notified. They're also not providing many details on top of what we already know.

      We did find out that the investigation began Tuesday after a 911 call came in.

      Officials have several witnesses and are in the process of interviewing them.

      We also know that an autopsy was performed at Marquette General on Thursday.

      The details of that autopsy are unknown.

      We'll be meeting up with the investigation team this afternoon and hope to provide more details then.
