Dedicated swimmers braved the rainy weather to swim the length of Teal Lake on Saturday morning. The 11th annual Swim Teal Lake event is put on by the U.P Diabetes Outreach Network. 90 swimmers registered for the 2.2 mile swim starting from the Negaunee side of Teal Lake and ending at the Ishpeming side.
Each swimmer registered donated at least $75 for diabetes awareness. All of the proceeds will go back into UPDON's programs and funds. As part of the festivities Dr. Nat Strand was on hand to speak about living with diabetes. Dr. Strand was part of the first all female team to win the Amazing Race.
Part of her message was to stay active and that if she can do the Amazing Race others with diabetes can do anything they want. Beginners took off from the beach at 8:30AM with more experienced swimmers leaving right behind them at nine.
