A 51-year-old Brimley man will be headed to federal prison for assaulting a federal officer.
The Department of Justice says that Lorne Anthony Lyons, a 51-year-old Bay Mills Indian Community member, was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison and two years of supervised release after an incident back in May of 2012. Police say that Lyons sent text messages to his estranged wife, claiming he had committed a suicidal act.
When authorities attempted to locate Lyons, they discovered him hiding in a closet. When they asked him to come out, he took a short sword and thrust it at a tribal police officer, waiving it around, and threw it at the officer after being shot with a taser.
