If you have any unwanted medication at home, you can get rid of it this Saturday.
It's National Take Back Day, an effort from the Drug Enforcement Administration.
This is a way for unneeded prescription pills to get disposed of properly. Proper disposal of pills is important for the environment so they don't end up in our water or in the wrong hands, according to officials. You can drop off your pills at any local Michigan State Police post.
Pills need to be out of their packaging and kept in a Ziplock bag.
"Pill or capsule, we cannot accept liquids, powders or syringes," said Sgt. Kevin Dowling of the Michigan State Police. "Any other kind of non-pill form medication."
Pills can only be dropped off this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at your local Michigan State Police Post. They will not accept any after 2 p.m. because the DEA officials will be there to pick them up.
