Mon, 27 May 2013 05:03:34 GMT — L'Anse area residents dedicated a new trail Saturday. The trail has two paths in L'Anse Township Park, each under a mile. The two-and-a-half year project includes Cathy's Path and Soup's Loop, named after two local residents who love the outdoors. Cathy's Path is named after Cathy Turner Newland, a woman who loved the outdoors and passed away recently. Soup's Loop is named after Jim Johnson, better known as "Soup," a man active in trail building and cycling across the county. Cathy's brother and Soup cut their respective ribbons for each path. "Ninety beautiful acres in this figure-eight trail, and it's all season. So it means a lot, not just now on a sunny day, but also in the dead of winter," said Joe Bouchard, volunteer with Baraga County Trails in Motion. Volunteers from Baraga County Trails in Motion led the project, but officials say it was a large community effort.
