Two teens were arrested after police say they stole a vehicle and crashed it into a tree after consuming alcohol.
Marquette Police pursued a vehicle that ran a red light at the corner of McClellan and Washington in Marquette at 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday morning. Police say they tried to stop the vehicle but it would not stop and turned down the dead end of Mildred Street where it collided with a tree.
A 16-year-old female driver and a 17-year-old female passenger were both arrested. According to police, the two girls were runaways that had been consuming alcohol and stole a car from Marquette.
The 16-year-old girl was lodged at the Marquette County Youth Home for operating while impaired, unlawful driving away of an automobile and having no driver's license. The 17-year-old girl was lodged at the Marquette County Jail on charges of unlawful driving away of an automobile, minor in possession of alcohol and obstructing police.
There were no injuries in the crash.
