If you are looking for a holiday laugh, NMU is presenting The 12 Dates of Christmas at the Black Box Theatre on the campus of NMU. It's the story of a woman who gets dumped and finds herself back on the dating scene. "There stands my fiancee. A man I thought I knew better than anyone else in the world, wearing the green scarf that I crocheted for him, making out with another woman," said Mary.
After discovering her fiancee kissing another woman on TV during the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, Mary finds herself single again.
The12 Dates of Christmas is a one woman comedy.
"Everything she had planned out for her life is gone. It's kind of about, well what do you do? How do you get through those awful first dates? How do you find what works," said Meghan Marquardt, who plays Mary.
So, Mary is forced to cope with being single again during the Holidays. In the process she revisits all of her previous relationships and rebounds with a number of guys.
"She meets a doctor and that goes interestingly. She has a one night stand with the bartender. I mean it's crazy. It's the whirlwind of wrong guy after wrong guy," Marquardt said.
"I'm not on some quest to find the perfect man. Remember, I'm still reeling over my broken engagement," Mary said.
While she's rebounding, it turns into a self journey. Mary starts coming to terms with loneliness and realizes she doesn't need a guy to be happy.
"She's really relatable. You know it's a silly play. It's relatable in a romantic comedy kind of a way. You know it's like real life blown up a little bigger, " Marquardt explained.
You can see this holiday comedy at 7:30 p.m., December 5 and 6 at NMU's Black Box Theatre.
Tickets are $5.
