Students of Ishpeming High School will be performing the classic musical, Guys and Dolls, this weekend.
"It's been a movie with famous people, it's a well-known show, lots of great songs. It's about the gangsters of New York city," said Denise Clark, Director of Guys and Dolls.
The movie starred some big names such as Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra, but that doesn't mean that the actors and actresses of this production won't shine in their own way on stage. Of course, just like any performance, nerves will be present.
"I'm very excited, but I'm also very nervous because it will be my first time getting in front of anybody singing and performing," said Alec VanHorn, â??Nicely-Nicely Johnson.â??
Many of these students performing this weekend have a lot on their plates. For instance, VanHorn was a part of the State Champion Ishpeming Hematites Football team. What made this Hematite football player add theater to his resume?
â??I've always liked acting and film, but I never thought I would be one for theater, but then my friend talked me into it," said VanHorn.
All of these students have put a lot of hard work into this performance with only a little bit of time. It's even more impressive when you realize what is missing at Ishpeming High School.
"I think that it's really incredibly cool that the students of Ishpeming asked to put on a musical. They don't have a theater department here or a drama department," said Clark.
Be sure to check out Guys and Dolls on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday at Ishpeming High School.
