Third grade students from Superior Hills Elementary School in Marquette learned a lesson on the Edmund Fitzgerald Monday.
For the past nine years, Mrs. Masich has included the history of the sunken ship into her curriculum with a fun activity which helps students to measure the approximate length of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
While her students can only imagine what happened that day in 1975, Masich, who is originally from St. Ignace, has a strong memory of the event.
"It was a very memorable time for me, so I thought I'd try to bring it into my classroom and make them aware of something that happened in the Upper Peninsula," said Masich.
Sunday marked the 38th anniversary of the sinking of the S.S. Fitzgerald.
