The Michigan State Police are investigating the death of a 10-month-old Ishpeming Township girl.
On Saturday, April 21, troopers from the Negaunee Post were sent to a home in Ishpeming Township where there was an unresponsive infant. Marquette Central Dispatchers were attempting to provide parents with CPR instructions while the troopers were en route.
Police and ambulance personnel from Bell Hospital attempted to revive the infant, but she was taken to Bell Hospital and pronounced dead.
Although the case is still being investigated, authorities say the death may have resulted from a parent sleeping with the child on a sofa. Police warn of the dangers posed when adults sleep with their infants.
They also said that the best way to reduce the risk of sudden unexpected infant death is to make sure they are put to sleep on their back in a safe place apart from an adult.
