The 29th annual Trim the Tree fundraiser to benefit the Marquette Alger Special Olympics was held at the Holiday Inn in Marquette Thursday. Participants donated $10 for a tag with their name on it. The tags were then placed on a Christmas tree. Organizers say strong community support makes the event a success each year.
"Many of the restaurants, grocery stores and people have donated items that we see on the buffet, and last year we raised between seven and eight thousand dollars in support of the Special Olympics and their programs during the course of the year," said Event Chairman Sean O'Donnell.
Proceeds from the event will help defray the costs of competition for nearly 150 Special Olympics athletes.
